We provide the highest level of emergency care and support for all those in need of it. Comprising more than one hundred nurses and nursing assistants, together with the duty doctors and other staff, we deal with patients in acute need of the hospital’s resources.
Responsibility and care are our top priorities!
The Accident and Emergency Department is divided into three sections:
- Medical
- Surgical and urological
- Orthopaedics
The Department also administers the hospital’s staffing centre.
Approximately 65,000 patients attend the Emergency Department every year and since the changes to the Solna Emergency Department on 4 April 2005, the number of patients has increased by approximately 20%, predominantly in respect of the medical unit. Approximately half of our patients attend the medical unit, and of these just under half are admitted. An average of 60 ambulances attend the department every day and our highest volume of attendance is on Monday afternoons. A third of all patients who attend the Emergency Department are admitted.
All attendees are prioritised based on initial assessment. Our goal is that 80% of attendees will be processed through the Department within four hours. Priority is obviously given to the seriously ill and injured but irrespective of how many people attend the Department, we always try to ensure that all our patients are seen by a doctor within two hours of arrival. We have a maximum of nine and a minimum of four qualified doctors on the unit at any given time.
Referral to the Emergency DepartmentWhere it becomes necessary to refer someone to the Emergency Department at Danderyds sjukhus, we ask where possible that contact first be made with the Emergency Department admissions desk (see contact information). Where necessary the triage desk staff will connect you with the duty doctor. For acute X-ray or ultrasound examination, please see under radiology. Patients attending for X-ray or ultrasound do not usually need to attend the Emergency Department first.
